These repairs are essential for the continued safe operation of the bridge. During this time, repairs will be performed, including driving piles for 2 sheave platforms, 2 winch platforms, a walkway and a hydraulic unit housing platform. The repairs are necessary to ensure the safety of the bridge. Notices will be published in the Eighth Coast Guard District Local Notice to Mariners and will be broadcast via the Coast Guard Broadcast Notice to Mariners System. Navigation on the waterway consists of commercial and recreational fishing vessels, small to medium crew boats, and small tugs with and without tows. No alternate routes are available for the passage of vessels; however, the closure was coordinated with waterway interests who have indicated that they will be able to adjust their operations around the proposed work schedule. The bridge will be able to open manually in the event of an emergency, but it will take about one hour to do so. In accordance with 33 CFR 117.5, the draw bridge must return to its regular operating schedule immediately at the end of the effective period of this temporary deviation.
