BILLING CODE 6750–01–M Meeting of the President’s Council on Fitness, Sports, and Nutrition DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH AND HUMAN SERVICES Notice is hereby given that in furtherance of the delegation of authority to the Assistant Secretary for Health on September 28, 1979, by the Secretary of Health and Human Services, the Assistant Secretary for Health has delegated to the Director, National Vaccine Program Office the authority under Section 1702(a) [42 U.S.C. 300u–1(a)] and Section 1703(a) and (c) [42 U.S.C. 300u–2(a) and (c)] of the Public Health Service Act, as amended, to conduct and support research programs and to conduct and support programs in health information and health promotion, preventive health services, and education in the appropriate use of health care and to support such work by private non-profit entities, respectively. All previous delegations and redelegations under Title XVII of the Public Health Service Act shall continue in effect, provided that they are consistent with this delegation. This delegation excludes the authority to issue regulations and to establish advisory committees and councils and appoint their members and shall be exercised in accordance with the Department’s applicable policies, procedures, and guidelines. Recommendations may address, but are not necessarily limited to, public awareness campaigns; federal, state, and local physical activity; fitness, sports participation, and nutrition initiatives; and partnership opportunities between public- and private-sector health promotion entities; (3) functioning as a liaison to relevant state, local, and private entities in order to advise the Secretary regarding opportunities to extend and improve physical activity, fitness, sports, and nutrition programs and services at the local, state, and national levels; and (4) monitoring the need to enhance programs and educational and promotional materials sponsored, overseen, or disseminated by the Council, and advising the Secretary, as necessary, concerning such need. In performing its functions, the Council shall take into account the federal Dietary Guidelines for Americans and the Physical Activity Guidelines for Americans. The PCFSN will hold, at a minimum, one meeting per fiscal year. The meeting will be held to (1) assess ongoing Council activities and (2) discuss and plan future projects and programs. The agenda for the planned meeting is being developed and will be posted at www.fitness.gov when it has been finalized. The meeting that is scheduled to be held on May 7, 2013 is open to the public.
