Pursuant to Regulations 30 CFR 77.1901, a coal mine operator must conduct inspections of slope and shaft areas for hazardous conditions, including tests for methane and oxygen deficiency, before and during each shift and before and after blasting. The regulatory requirement also makes it mandatory for the operator to maintain a record of the results of each inspection. This information collection is subject to the PRA. A Federal agency generally cannot conduct or sponsor a collection of information, and the public is generally not required to respond to an information collection, unless it is approved by the OMB under the PRA and displays a currently valid OMB Control Number.
