Notice of Application for Approval of
Discontinuance or Modification of a
Railroad Signal System
In accordance with Part 235 of Title
49 of the Code of Federal Regulations
(CFR) and 49 U.S.C. 20502(a), this
document provides the public notice
that by a document dated January 18,
2012, the Union Pacific Railroad (UP)
has petitioned the Federal Railroad
Administration (FRA) seeking approval
for the discontinuance or modification
of a signal system. FRA assigned the
petition Docket Number FRA–2012–
0012.
UP seeks approval of the proposed
discontinuance of the automatic block
signal (ABS) system between Control
Point (CP) Troost and Neff Yard on UP’s
KC Metro Subdivision, at approximately
Milepost 281. UP’s plans call for the
discontinuance of ABS Signals Numbers
2805L, 2805R, 2806L, and 2806R, on
Track 112 and Main 2; as well as a
switch circuit controller on a handoperated switch on Track 112.
The reason given is that the ABS
system is not needed for efficient and
safe operation of trains in this area.
A copy of the petition, as well as any
written communications concerning the
petition, is available for review online at
