Type of Review: Extension of a
previously approved collection.
Abstracts: The National Practitioner
Data Bank, authorized by the Health
Care Quality Improvement Act of 1986
and administered by the Department of
Health and Human Service, was
established for the purpose of collecting
and releasing certain information
concerning physicians, dentists, and
other licensed health care practitioners.
The Act requires VA to obtain
information from the Data Bank on
health care providers who provide or
seek to provide health care services at
VA facilities and report information
regarding malpractice payments and
adverse clinical privileges action to the
Data Bank.
An agency may not conduct or
sponsor, and a person is not required to
respond to a collection of information
unless it displays a currently valid OMB
control number. The Federal Register
Notice with a 60-day comment period
soliciting comments on this collection
of information was published on June 7,
