ACTION: Notice and request for
comments.
AGENCY:
In compliance with the
Paperwork Reduction Act of 1995, the
Office of Surface Mining Reclamation
and Enforcement (OSM) is announcing
its intention to request renewed
authority for the collection of
information relating to Abandoned mine
reclamation funds.
DATES: Comments on the proposed
information collection must be received
by August 22, 2011, to be assured of
consideration.

regulations at 5 CFR 1320, which
implement provisions of the Paperwork
Reduction Act of 1995 (Pub. L. 104–13),
require that interested members of the
public and affected agencies have an
opportunity to comment on information
collection and recordkeeping activities
[see 5 CFR 1320.8 (d)]. This notice
identifies the information collection that
OSM will be submitting to OMB for
approval. This collection is contained in
30 CFR 872, Abandoned mine
reclamation funds. OSM will request a
3-year term of approval for each
information collection activity.
An agency may not conduct or
sponsor, and a person is not required to
respond to, a collection of information
unless it displays a currently valid OMB
control number. The OMB control
number for Part 872 is 1029–0054 and
is codified at 30 CFR 872.10. Responses
are required to obtain a benefit.
Comments are invited on: (1) The
need for the collection of information
for the performance of the functions of
the agency; (2) the accuracy of the
agency’s burden estimates; (3) ways to
enhance the quality, utility and clarity

Summary: 30 CFR 872 establishes a
procedure whereby States and Indian
Tribes submit written statements
announcing the State/Tribe’s decision
not to submit reclamation plans, and
therefore, will not be granted AML
funds.

Description of Respondents: State and
Tribal abandoned mine land
