SUPPLEMENTARY INFORMATION: I. Description of Proposed Systems of Records This system will collect a limited amount of personally identifiable information in order to provide service to Veterans, service members, reservists, and their spouses, surviving spouses, and dependents, who file claims for a wide variety of Federal veteran’s benefits administered by VA at VA facilities located throughout the nation. See the statutory provisions cited in ‘‘Authority for maintenance of the system.’’ VA gathers or creates these records in order to enable it to administer these statutory benefits programs. The Department of the Veterans Affairs notices for systems of records subject to the Privacy Act of 1974 (5 U.S.C. 552a), as amended, have been published in the Federal Register and are available from the address above. The proposed system reports, as required by 5 U.S.C. 552a(r), of the Privacy Act of 1974, as amended, were submitted to the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, the Senate Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs, and the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) pursuant to paragraph 4c of Appendix I to OMB Circular No. A–130, ‘‘Federal Agency Responsibilities for Maintaining Records About Individuals,’’ dated February 8, 1996 (61 FR 6427, February 20, 1996). The Purpose in this system of records is being added to provide explanation for the information collection and list affected individuals. In this system of records the name and address of the System Owner have been updated for accuracy. The notice of amendment and an advance copy of the system notice have been sent to the appropriate Congressional committees and to the Director of Office of Management and Budget (OMB) as required by 5 U.S.C. 552a(r) and guidelines issued by OMB (65 FR 77677, December 12, 2000).
