Environmental Assessment for the
Proposed Mainline Extension
Interconnect Project

The staff of the Federal Energy
Regulatory Commission (FERC or
Commission) has prepared an
environmental assessment (EA) for the
Mainline Extension Interconnect Project
proposed by Eastern Shore Natural Gas
Company (Eastern Shore) in the above
referenced docket. Eastern Shore
requests authorization to construct
pipeline facilities in Lancaster and
Chester Counties, Pennsylvania to
provide firm transportation service for
local distribution companies in
Delaware, Maryland, and Pennsylvania.
The EA assesses the potential
environmental effects of the
construction and operation of the
Mainline Extension Interconnect Project
in accordance with the requirements of
the National Environmental Policy Act.
The FERC staff concludes that approval
of the proposed project, with
appropriate mitigating measures, would
not constitute a major Federal action
significantly affecting the quality of the
human environment.
The proposed Mainline Extension
Interconnect Project includes the
following facilities:
• 8.3 miles of 16-inch-diameter
natural gas pipeline;
• One meter station/pig 1 launcher at
the interconnect with Texas Eastern
Transmission, LP, near Honey Brook,
Pennsylvania;
• One mainline valve; and
1 A ‘‘pig’’ is a tool that is inserted into and moves
through the pipeline, and is used for cleaning the
pipeline, internal inspections, or other purposes.
