I. Introduction
The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory
Commission (NRC or Commission) is
issuing a revision of a guide in the
agency’s ‘‘Regulatory Guide’’ series. This
series was developed to describe and
make available to the public information
such as methods that are acceptable to
the NRC staff for implementing specific
parts of the agency’s regulations,
techniques that the staff uses in
evaluating specific problems or
postulated accidents, and data that the
staff needs in its review of applications
for permits and licenses.
Revision 1 of RG 1.62, ‘‘Manual
Initiation of Protective Actions,’’ was
issued with a temporary identification
as Draft Regulatory Guide, DG–1190.
This regulatory guide applies to
operating power reactors licensed in
accordance with title 10 of the Code of
Federal Regulations part 50, ‘‘Domestic
Licensing of Production and Utilization
Facilities’’ (10 CFR part 50), and with 10
CFR part 52, ‘‘Licenses, Certifications,
and Approvals for Nuclear Power
Plants.’’ New applicants should consider
this guidance in preparing an
application for a combined license
under 10 CFR part 52.
II. Further Information
In December, DG–1190 was published
for public comment. The staff’s
responses to the public comments
received are located in the NRC’s
