Agenda: The committees will discuss Risk Evaluation and Mitigation Strategies (REMS) for extended-release and long-acting opioid analgesics. In this context, some persons suffering from pain need access to potent opioid drug products; however, inappropriate prescribing, addiction, and death due to prescription opioid abuse and misuse have been increasing over the last decade. FDA intends to make background material available to the public no later than 2 business days before the meeting. For this particular meeting, FDA anticipates that the briefing materials will not contain information that, under certain circumstances, could be considered exempt from public disclosure under the Freedom of Information Act. Therefore, FDA anticipates making the briefing materials available on our Web site no later than 2 weeks before the day the advisory committee meeting is scheduled to occur. If FDA is unable to post the background material on its Web site prior to the meeting, the background material will be made publicly available at the location of the advisory committee meeting, and the background material will be posted on FDA’s Web site after the meeting.
