ACTION:
SUMMARY: The Defense Policy Board will
meet in closed session on June 23 and
24, 2010, at the Pentagon.
DATES: The meeting will be held on June
23, 2010, from 0730 hrs until 1800 hrs
and on June 24, 2010, from 0730 hrs
until 1030 hrs.
ADDRESSES: The meeting will be held at
the Pentagon.
FOR FURTHER INFORMATION CONTACT: Ms.

SUPPLEMENTARY INFORMATION: The
purpose of the meeting is to provide the
Secretary of Defense, Deputy Secretary
of Defense and Under Secretary of
Defense for Policy with independent,
informed advice on major matters of
defense policy. The Board will hold
classified discussions on national
security matters.
In accordance with section 10(d) of
the Federal Advisory Committee Act,
Public Law 92–463, as amended (5
U.S.C. App II (1982)), it has been
determined that this meeting concerns
matters listed in 5 U.S.C.
552B(c)(1)(1982), and that accordingly
this meeting will be closed to the
public.

Abstract: This study seeks to identify
schools that have achieved rapid
improvements in student outcomes in a
short period of time; illuminate the
complex range of policies, programs,
and practices used by these turnaround
schools; and compare them to strategies
employed by not improving, chronically
low-performing schools. The ultimate
goal of the study is to specify replicable
policies, programs, and practices that
hold greatest promise for further
rigorous analysis. To this end, the study
will collect data from school principals
as well as school staff through a Webbased and telephone survey and on-site
interviews in selected schools. The data
will be used by the U.S. Department of
Education to identify policies,
programs, and practices associated with
school turnaround that can be

SUPPLEMENTARY INFORMATION: Under the
provisions of section 10(d) of Public
Law 92–463, the Department of Defense
has determined that the meeting meets
the criteria to close meetings to the
public because the matters to be
considered are related to internal rules
and practices of the Department of
Defense and the detailed wage data to be
considered were obtained from officials
of private establishments with a
guarantee that the data will be held in
confidence.
However, members of the public who
may wish to do so are invited to submit
material in writing to the chairman
concerning matters believed to be
deserving of the Committee’s attention.
