SUMMARY: GIPSA is announcing the
designation of the following
organizations to provide official services
under the United States Grain Standards
Act, as amended (USGSA): Kansas Grain
Inspection Service, Inc. (Kansas); MidIowa Grain Inspection, Inc. (Mid-Iowa);
Minot Grain Inspection, Inc. (Minot);
and Tri-State Grain Inspection Service,
Inc. (Tri-State).
In the
December 1, 2008, Federal Register (73
FR 72762), GIPSA requested
applications for designation to provide
official services in the geographic area
named above. Applications were due by
January 2, 2009.
SUPPLEMENTARY INFORMATION:
Kansas, Mid-Iowa, Minot, and TriState were the sole applicants for
designation to provide official services
in the areas currently assigned to them,
so GIPSA did not ask for additional
comments on them.
GIPSA evaluated all available
information regarding the designation
criteria in section 7(f)(l) of the USGSA
(7 U.S.C. 79(f)) and determined Kansas,
Mid-Iowa, Minot, and Tri-State are able
to provide official services in the
geographic areas specified in the
December 1, 2008, Federal Register, for
which they applied. This designation
action to provide official services in the
specified area is effective July 1, 2009
and terminates on June 30, 2012.

is better able than any other applicant

Under section 7(g)(1) of the USGSA,
designations of official agencies are
effective for 3 years unless terminated
by the Secretary but may be renewed
according to the criteria and procedures
prescribed in section 7(f) of the Act.

Alimentarius Commission (Codex), in
accordance with section 491 of the
Trade Agreements Act of 1979, as
amended, and the Uruguay Round
Agreements Act, Public Law 103–465,
108 Stat. 4809. This notice also provides
a list of other standard-setting activities
of Codex, including commodity
standards, guidelines, codes of practice,
and revised texts. This notice, which
covers the time periods from June 1,
2008, to May 31, 2009, and June 1, 2009,
to May 31, 2010, seeks comments on
standards under consideration and
recommendations for new standards.
