Commemorative Coin, and design options for

In accordance with 31 U.S.C. 5135, the
CCAC:
• Advises the Secretary of the Treasury on
any theme or design proposals relating to
circulating coinage, bullion coinage,
Congressional Gold Medals, and national and
other medals.
• Advises the Secretary of the Treasury
with regard to the events, persons, or places
to be commemorated by the issuance of
commemorative coins in each of the five
calendar years succeeding the year in which
a commemorative coin designation is made.
• Makes recommendations with respect to
the mintage level for any commemorative
coin recommended.

June 11, 2009, Washington, DC.
SUMMARY: Notice is hereby given of the
following hearing of the U.S.-China
Economic and Security Review
Commission.
Name: Carolyn Bartholomew,
Chairman of the U.S.-China Economic
and Security Review Commission.
The Commission is mandated by
Congress to investigate, assess, and
report to Congress annually on ‘‘the
national security implications of the
economic relationship between the
United States and the People’s Republic
of China.’’
Pursuant to this mandate, the
Commission will hold a public hearing
in Washington, DC on June 11, 2009 to
address ‘‘The Implications of China’s
Naval Modernization on the United
States.’’
Background
This event is the sixth in a series of
public hearings the Commission will
hold during its 2009 report cycle to
collect input from leading academic,
industry, and government experts on
national security implications of the
U.S. bilateral trade and economic
relationship with China. The June 11
hearing will examine PLA naval
development and reforms, recent PLA
Navy operational activities, technical
aspects of China’s naval modernization,
and the strategic implications of these
aspects on U.S. and allied nations’
national security.
The June 11 hearing will be Cochaired by Vice Chairman Larry Wortzel
and Commissioner Peter Videnieks.
Information on hearings, as well as
transcripts of past Commission hearings,
can be obtained from the USCC Web
Site https://www.uscc.gov.
Copies of the hearing agenda will be
made available on the Commission’s
Web Site https://www.uscc.gov as soon as

a written statement by June 11, 2009, by

11, the hearing will be held in two
sessions, one in the morning and one in
the afternoon. A portion of each panel
will include a question and answer
period between the Commissioners and
the witnesses.

Standard Time. A detailed agenda for
the hearing will be posted to the

Senate Office Building located at First
Street and Constitution Avenues, NE.,

limited to about 50 people on a first
come, first served basis. Advance
