Proposed Project: The Health Professions Student Loan (HPSL) and Nursing Student Loan (NSL) Programs: Forms (OMB No. 0915–0044): Extension The HPSL Program provides longterm, low-interest loans to students Number of respondents Form Responses per respondent 78373 attending schools of medicine, osteopathic medicine, dentistry, veterinary medicine, optometry, podiatric medicine, and pharmacy. The NSL Program provides long-term, lowinterest loans to students who attend eligible schools of nursing in programs leading to a diploma in nursing, and an associate degree, a baccalaureate degree, or a graduate degree in nursing. Participating HPSL and NSL schools are responsible for determining eligibility of applicants, making loans, and collecting monies owed by borrowers on their outstanding loans. The deferment form (HRSA form 519) provides the schools with documentation of a borrower’s eligibility for deferment. The Annual Operating Report (AOR–HRSA form 501) provides the Federal Government with information from participating and non-participating schools (schools that are no longer granting loans but are required to report and maintain program records, student records, and repayment records until all student loans are repaid in full and all monies due the Federal Government are returned) relating to HPSL and NSL program operations and financial activities. Need and Use of Information Collection: This is a request for approval of information collection required by Section 408 of the Indian Child Protection and Family Violence Prevention Act, Pub. L. 101–630, 104 Stat. 4544, and 25 U.S.C. 3201–3211. The IRS is required to compile a list of all authorized positions within the IHS where the duties and responsibilities involve regular contact with, or control over, Indian children; and to conduct an investigation of the character of each individual who is employed, or is being considered for employment in a position having regular contact with, or control over, Indian children. Section 3207(b) of the Indian Child Protection and Family Violence Prevention Act was amended by Section 814 of U.S.C. 3031, the Native American Laws Technical Corrections Act of 2000, which requires that the regulations prescribing the minimum standards of character ensure that none of the individuals appointed to positions involving regular contact with, or control over, Indian children have been found guilty of, or entered a plea of nolo contendere or guilty to any felonious offense, or any of two or more misdemeanor offenses under Federal, State, or Tribal law involving crimes of violence; sexual assault, molestation, exploitation, contact or prostitution; crimes against persons; or offenses committed against children.
