Information Collection Request
Title: Title 46 CFR Subchapter Q:
Lifesaving, Electrical, and Engineering
Equipment, Construction and Materials
& Marine Sanitation Devices (33 CFR
part 159).
OMB Control Number: 1625–0035.
Summary: This information is used by
the Coast Guard to ensure regulations
governing specific types of safety
equipment, material, and Marine
Sanitation Devices (MSDs) installed on
commercial vessels and pleasure craft
are met. Manufacturers are required to
submit drawings, specifications, and
laboratory test reports to the Coast
Guard before any approval is given.
Need: Sections 2103, 3306, 3703, and
4302 of 46 U.S.C. authorize the Coast
Guard to establish safety equipment and
material regulations. These regulations
are contained in 46 CFR parts 159 to
164. Section 1322 of 33 U.S.C.
authorizes the Coast Guard to establish
MSD regulations that are contained in
33 CFR part 159. This information will
be used to determine whether

manufacturers are in compliance with
Coast Guard regulations. When the
Coast Guard approves any safety
equipment, material, or MSD for use on
a commercial vessel or pleasure craft,
the manufacturer is issued a Certificate
of Approval.

Burden Estimate: The estimated
burden has increased from 20,529 hours
to 103,121 per year.

The Great
Lakes Waterways Management Forum
identifies and resolves waterways
management issues that involve the
Great Lakes region. The forum is chaired
by the Commander, Ninth Coast Guard
District; the Ontario Regional Director,
Transport Canada, Marine Safety; the
Commander, Army Corps of Engineers
Great Lakes and Ohio River Division;
and the Canadian Coast Guard Director
of the Central and Arctic Region and
meets once a year to assess the Great
Lakes region, assign priorities to areas of
concern, and identify issues for
resolution.

Updates, Overview of the Ice
Conference and Optimizing our Aids to
Navigation systems. The meeting will be
open to the public. The specific agenda
is still under development. Additional
topics of discussion are solicited from
the public. Comments must be
submitted on or before October 10,
