The staff of the Federal Energy
Regulatory Commission (FERC or
Commission) has prepared an
environmental assessment (EA) of the
natural gas compressor station proposed

The EA was prepared to satisfy the
requirements of the National
Environmental Policy Act. The FERC
staff concludes that approval of the
proposed project, with appropriate
mitigating measures, would not
constitute a major federal action
significantly affecting the quality of the
human environment.
The EA assesses the potential
environmental effects of the
construction and operation of Northern
Border’s proposed Des Plaines Project,
consisting of a new 1,600 horsepower
compressor station, meter station, and
interconnect facilities at a site along
Northern Border’s existing pipeline
system in Will County, Illinois. The Des
Plaines Project would enable Northern
Border to receive natural gas from ANR
