These areas provide nesting and feeding areas for threatened loggerhead and leatherback sea turtles and American alligators; endangered piping plovers and wood storks; and species such as shorebirds, gulls, and terns. Refuge management activities focus on habitat monitoring and protection, along with wildlifedependent public use opportunities and environmental education. Saltwater fishing is allowed. Two archery hunts for deer are scheduled during fall and winter.
