ACTION: Request for comments. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- SUMMARY: In compliance with the Paperwork Reduction Act of 1995, the U.S. Coast Guard intends to seek the approval of OMB for the renewal of one Information Collection Request (ICR). The ICR is 1625-0071, Boat Owner's Report--Possible Safety Defect. Before submitting the ICR to OMB, the Coast Guard is inviting comments on it as described below. DATES: Comments must reach the Coast Guard on or before May 16, 2006. Information Collection Request Title: Boat Owner's Report--Possible Safety Defect. OMB Control Number: 1625-0071. Summary: The collection of information provides a means for consumers who believe their recreational boats or designated associated equipment contain substantial risk defects or fail to comply with Federal safety standards to report the deficiencies to the Coast Guard for investigation and possible remedy. Need: 46 U.S.C. 4310 gives the Coast Guard the authority to require manufacturers of recreational boats and certain items of designated associated equipment to notify owners and remedy: (1) defects that create a substantial risk of personal injury to the public; and (2) failures to comply with applicable Federal safety standards. Respondents: Owners and users of recreational boats and items of designated associated equipment. Frequency: One time. Burden Estimate: The estimated burden hours has increased from 10 hours to 13.2 hours a year. Dated: March 10, 2006. R.T.
