Status: The meeting is open to the public
with attendance limited to space availability.
Purpose: The Committee provides advice
and recommendations to the Secretary of
Health and Human Services on the following:
Department programs that are directed at
reducing infant mortality and improving the
health status of pregnant women and infants;
factors affecting the continuum of care with
respect to maternal and child health care,
including outcomes following childbirth;
strategies to coordinate the variety of Federal,
State, local and private programs and efforts
that are designed to deal with the health and
social problems impacting on infant
mortality; and the implementation of the
Healthy Start program and Healthy People
2010 infant mortality objectives.
Agenda: Topics that will be discussed
include the following: Health Disparities in
the Maternal and Child Health (MCH)
Population and A Life-course Perspective for
Perinatal Health and Preconception Care.
Substantial time will be spent in
Subcommittee and full Committee
discussions aimed at formulating the ACIM
issues agenda. Proposed agenda items are
subject to change as priorities indicate.
Time will be provided for public
comments limited to five minutes each;
comments are to be submitted no later than
November 14, 2005.

purpose of the meeting will be to address
issues related to the status of the nursing
workforce. Two leading educators/
researchers will present on their findings
related to nursing workforce data, trends and
issues. In addition, representatives from four
nursing organizations representing nursing
education, practice and licensing will present
their data, trends, and workforce issues.
During this meeting and the subsequent April
2006 meeting, Council workgroups will
deliberate on content presented and
formulate recommendations to the Secretary
of Health and Human Services and the
Congress on nursing workforce issues based
on the latest data and trends. This meeting
will form the basis for NACNEP’s mandated
Sixth Annual Report.
