The staff of the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC or Commission) will prepare an environmental assessment (EA) that will discuss the environmental impacts of the Cunningham Service Expansion Project involving construction and operation of facilities by Northern Natural Gas Company (Northern) in Pratt County, Kansas.1 These facilities would consist of two reciprocating compressors rated at 3,550 horsepower (hp) each. This EA will be used by the Commission in its decisionmaking process to determine whether the project is in the public convenience and necessity. This notice announces the opening of the scoping period that will be used to gather environmental input from the public and interested agencies on the project. Please note that the scoping period will close on November 11, 2005. This notice is being sent to potentially affected landowners; Federal, State, and 1 Northern’s application was filed with the Commission under section 7 of the Natural Gas Act and part 157 of the Commission’s regulations.
