Purpose Fixed-price contracts with prospective price redetermination provide for firm fixed prices for an initial period of the contract with prospective redetermination at stated times during performance. Fixed price contracts with retroactive price redetermination provide for a fixed ceiling price and retroactive price redetermination within the ceiling after completion of the contract. In order for the amounts of price adjustments to be determined, the firms performing under these contracts must provide information to the Government regarding their expenditures and anticipated costs. Prices, require offerors and contractors under Federal contracts that 
are to be awarded without adequate price competition to identify in 
their proposals those supplies which they will not manufacture or to 
which they will not contribute significant value. The policies included 
in the FAR are required by section 501 of Public Law 98-577 (for the 
civilian agencies) and section 927 of Public Law 99-500 (for DOD and 
NASA). The rule contains no reporting requirements on contracts with 
commercial items.
